Developmental Disability Services
“All people, regardless of disability, deserve the opportunity for a full life in their community where they can live, learn, work, and play alongside each other through all stages of life.”
- The ARC position statement
The Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities estimates that the state of Georgia is home to 165,239 individuals with a developmental disability. Disabilities ranging from mental retardation to cerebral palsy to autism are included in this estimate. For individuals whose disabilities interfere with their ability to independently work and live in their homes and communities, Middle Flint Behavioral Healthcare offers assistance.
Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities at 706-565-7835.
Services are provided at DD Service Centers, in homes, and in the workplace.
Those services include:
- Employment Services. Our staff assist individuals in learning and practicing job skills, ranging from how to dress appropriately to completing specific work tasks. Clients may participate in training activities, in-house contract employment, or employment in natural work settings. Middle Flint is proud of its successful efforts to assist clients in finding employment in a variety of local businesses and industries, where they work side by side with their non-disabled peers.
- Daily Living Skills Training and Assistance. In order to live more independently, clients are provided with training in a variety of daily living skills, such as money management, meal preparation, or personal grooming. Individuals who have severe difficulties with basic activities of daily living may be assisted in these tasks on an ongoing basis.
- Family Support. Many individuals with a developmental disability live with supportive families in their communities. Because of the significant demands of time and finances, many families would not be able to maintain loved ones in the home without additional supports. Our Family Support program offers hands-on assistance to families, as well as information and other resources. Through special funding, we are often able to provide supplies and equipment to eligible families.
- Residential Services. Living in the natural home is not always an option, and many clients want to achieve more independent living in their communities. Middle Flint offers a variety of supported living arrangements, including group homes, apartments, and personal care homes. Assistance with daily living skills is provided in these home settings, as well as 24/7 staff availability.
- Community Integration. Whether an individual is living in a natural home or group setting, he or she must feel a part of the larger community in order to have the best quality of life. Middle Flint provides assistance through recreational, spiritual, athletic, and other opportunities in clients’ neighborhoods and communities.
