Client Rights and Responsibilities at Middle Flint Behavioral Healthcare

I. Your Rights

At Middle Flint Behavioral Healthcare, we consider the relationship between our service providers and those we serve to be the most important part of the treatment experience. Please be aware of your rights when you receive services:

  • Right to privacy. Middle Flint Behavioral Healthcare are confidential. We will not share information about your treatment or even the fact that you are enrolled for services without your written permission. In order for you to receive the best care, we want you to feel that your concerns can be discussed in a safe and supportive environment. Details about your care will only be released in limited circumstances; e.g., insurance billing, emergency medical situations, suspicion of child abuse, etc.

Our full Notice of Privacy Practices provides further details on your rights to privacy, including special situations in which we might release information on your care.

  • Right to services. Middle Flint Behavioral Healthcare provides services to individuals regardless of age, gender, race, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or ethnicity. We determine if you are eligible for our services based upon whether you have the types of problems for which we provide assistance; e.g., mental illness, developmental disabilities, or addictive diseases.

Our services are billed on a sliding fee scale, and many of our services can be billed to Medicaid, Medicare, or insurance companies. We will gladly work with you on a payment plan for services. If it is determined that you do not have the ability to pay, you will NOT be turned away for services.

  • Right to respect. If you are having problems in your daily life and need help, we want to be part of the solution. In order for us to be a good partner in your recovery, we should treat you with respect at all times. Our organization has zero tolerance for any neglect or abuse of the individuals and families we serve.

II. Your Responsibilities

Because treatment and recovery involve a partnership, we ask that you also honor your responsibilities as an individual receiving services in our programs. These responsibilities include the following:

  • Keep us informed. In order for services to go smoothly, please keep us updated on any changes in your status; e.g., new mailing address, change in family situation, new medical problems, etc. Your service provider must understand your current situation in order to assist you. If you can’t keep a scheduled appointment, please let us know, so that we can reschedule your appointment and use that time to serve someone else who may need assistance. When we update your financial information, please supply us with proof of income and other needed information, so that we can charge you at the correct level on our sliding fee scale. Our ability to provide services is dependent upon our receiving payment for these services – just like when you go to your doctor or dentist.
  • Follow your service plan. Each individual who receives services through Middle Flint Behavioral Healthcare should assist in developing his or her own service plan. This plan is a guide for your recovery. It will address goals you have set for your life and ways you can reach these goals. Failure to follow your service plan can reduce your chances for success. For example, don’t just stop taking your medication or attending a group if they don’t seem to be working out for you. If you have a problem with any recommendation in your plan, please let us know.
  • Be respectful. How can you show others your respect? Here are just a few ways: if you attend programs with other individuals, please respect their own privacy and right to be treated with dignity. Settle disagreements with words, not threats or fists. If you are in treatment, let us know if you can’t or won’t participate in something – don’t just walk away. Observe “No Smoking” signs. Be on time for appointments! In other words, treat the people around you in the same way you want to be treated. Mutual respect creates a healthier environment in which to work, to learn, and to grow.

Information on all your rights and responsibilities is provided to you in writing and discussed with you if you are admitted for services. For written information on these rights or to report a complaint, please contact us:
