Admissions Information

If you would like to obtain services for yourself, a friend or loved one, Middle Flint provides an evaluation and admission process that is designed to determine needs and solutions. The process is simple:

Referral  •  Intake  •  Admission  •  Evaluation  •  Additional Information

1. Referral

For mental health or addictive disease problems, referrals can be made by calling one of our clinics or toll-free number. At that time, a brief phone interview will help our staff in determining if we can be of assistance, or if we can provide information on other resources. For developmental disability assistance, please first call the regional office of the Dept. of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities.

2. Intake

At the intake appointment, a trained professional will interview the individual to determine the nature of the presenting problem and influences upon his or her mental/emotional well being or quality of life. Recommendations for needed service will be discussed. The client will also receive information about Middle Flint Behavioral Healthcare, including client rights and responsibilities. In order to be fully admitted to services, a person must provide written consent for services, receive screening and evaluation (which may include medical clearance), and meet eligibility requirements for services. Specifically, the client must have a problem relating to mental health or addictive disease and be able to benefit from one or more services offered by Middle Flint.

3. Admission

Individuals will normally be enrolled into services at the time of intake. A client must have a problem relating to mental health, addictive disease, or a developmental disability and be able to benefit from one or more of the services offered by Middle Flint. At admission clients will be provided with additional service information, including their rights and responsibilities, and they must sign a written consent for services. For developmental disability admissions, referral will be made to us by the regional office, and we will then provide needed follow-up.

4. Evaluation

Individuals admitted for behavioral health services will receive a psychiatric evaluation and nursing assessment. Clients will normally be interviewed by a psychiatrist or other trained physician within 30 days of admission. At that time a service or treatment plan will be approved, and, in many cases, medications may be prescribed. All services and medications recommended by the physician are voluntary, but clients are strongly encouraged to both participate in the development of their plans and to follow them closely, in order to make progress in treatment. Clients with developmental disabilities will receive a medical evaluation and also have a service plan developed. Families are asked to participate in the development of this plan.

A Few More Facts . . .

  • No one is refused admission based on inability to pay. Please review our Client Rights and Responsibilities for information on our payment options, including our sliding fee scale.
  • If an individual is experiencing a mental health or substance abuse crisis, an immediate assessment may be provided. Professionals are on call 24/7 to provide either face-to-face or telephone crisis assistance. Services may include evaluation, counseling, and/or referral to immediate services such as hospitalization, detoxification, or crisis stabilization. Upon discharge from one of these short-term programs, the client will then be evaluated for additional services using the previously described procedures.
