Addictive Disease Services

“..When people enter treatment, addiction has often taken over their lives. .. Because addiction can affect so many aspects of a person’s life, treatment must address the needs of the whole person to be successful.”
– National Institute on Drug Abuse

According to recent figures, approximately 429,000 Georgians have a dependence upon or regularly abuse alcohol. In addition, at least 197,000 individuals deal with an illegal drug abuse or addiction problem (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration). As high as these figures are, it is even more striking that only about 5% of alcohol abusers and 10% of drug abusers receive professional help. Individuals with drug and alcohol addiction are often reluctant to seek out help or incapable of taking this step. A family member, friend, or employer may be the one to reach out for services – and services are available.

For individuals dealing with the effects of alcohol or drug abuse, a broad range of services is offered at Middle Flint Behavioral Healthcare. Treatment and recovery options range from counseling to medical interventions, and from employment training to long-term residential care.

Our addictive disease services include the following:

  • Intensive Outpatient – Individuals receive evaluation, individual, family and/or group counseling, and medical assessment. Education about the nature of addictive disease is provided. Community support services are also available. If you think you or a family member need to talk regularly with others about coping with addiction, intensive outpatient may be your choice.
  • Detoxification – For individuals who are significantly intoxicated or under the influence of certain drugs or medications, a detoxification process may be beneficial. Under close medical supervision, an individual can receive help in getting all substances out of his or her system. Evaluation, education and group therapy are also provided.
  • Long-Term Residential – Because of their problems with alcohol or drug abuse, many individuals are unable to live with their families or own their own. For people who are in treatment and not living at home, Middle Flint may provide other living options.  One unique program Middle Flint operates is Serenity Farm, a long-term residential treatment program for mothers with young children, with a goal of keeping families together.
  • Community Outreach – In addition to serving enrolled clients, our mission takes us into our communities, providing services to the general public and “at-risk” populations.  Examples of these activities include:
    • Our Prevention program, providing alcohol and drug education to student and the public, and cited as an exemplary program by national surveyors;
    • HIV testing – individuals with substance abuse problems are at significantly higher risk of contracting HIV/AIDs, particularly intravenous drug users. We provide confidential testing and consultation.
